What an Energy Performance Certificate is, what your rating means, and the upgrades that improve it.
An Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rates how energy-efficient your home is, from A (most efficient) to G (least efficient). It also estimates your energy costs and suggests improvements. Most homes that have been sold or let recently already have one.
The biggest gains usually come from better insulation, an efficient heating system, and generating your own energy. Double or triple glazing, a modern boiler or heat pump, and solar panels all help.
When you get a quote we look up your property’s EPC automatically. You can also search the government EPC register for your address.
An EPC is valid for 10 years, though improvements you make since it was issued won’t show until it’s renewed.
C or above is considered good. Many older UK homes sit at D or E, with clear room to improve.
It depends on your home, but insulation and an efficient heating system typically make the biggest difference.
To reflect improvements on paper you’d arrange a new assessment — useful if you’re selling or letting.
