Your guide to Battery Storage

Explore our expert guides and FAQs to learn more about how home battery storage can work for your home.

How does a home battery work?
A home battery stores electricity so you can use it when you need it most. It charges up from your solar panels during the day, or from the grid during cheaper off-peak hours, and then powers your home in the evening and overnight — so you buy less expensive electricity from the grid.
Do I need solar panels to have a battery?
No. While a battery works brilliantly alongside solar panels, you do not need them. Even without solar you can charge your battery from the grid when electricity is cheapest and use that stored energy at peak times, helping to lower your overall bills.
What size battery do I need?
The right size depends on how much electricity your home uses each day and, if you have them, how much your solar panels generate. Our experts will assess your home and recommend a battery sized to suit you, so you get the most from it without paying for capacity you will not use.
How long does a home battery last?
Most home batteries are designed to last well over ten years of daily use, and come with a manufacturer warranty for your peace of mind. We only fit batteries from trusted brands, and we will always explain exactly what the warranty covers before you go ahead.
Will a battery keep my home running in a power cut?
Some batteries offer backup power that keeps essential appliances running during a power cut, though not every system includes this as standard. If backup power is important to you, let us know and we will recommend a battery that provides it.
