ECO4 Funding Explained

The Energy Company Obligation (ECO4) helps eligible households upgrade their heating and insulation — here’s how it works.

What is ECO4?

ECO4 is the latest phase of the government’s Energy Company Obligation. It requires larger energy suppliers to fund energy-efficiency improvements in the homes that need them most, focusing on lower-income and less energy-efficient households.

Who is eligible?

ECO4 is generally aimed at households receiving certain means-tested benefits, or homes identified through local authority flexible eligibility (LA Flex). Properties with lower EPC ratings are prioritised.

What can it cover?

  • Insulation — loft, cavity wall, solid wall and more.
  • Heating upgrades, including first-time central heating and heat pumps.
  • Heating controls and other efficiency measures.
